Job seekers in Northern Virginia have access to a comprehensive system of employment and training resources coordinated through the employment resource centers! Services are available in multiple languages – please ask.

Who Can Use a Center? 

Virginia Career Works – Northern Region Centers are free and open to the public.

You may walk in to use the Centers at your convenience or make an appointment for dedicated time with an Employment Resource Specialist.

Please Note: If you are a resident of the City of Alexandria or Arlington County, we encourage you to visit the Arlington Employment Center or City of Alexandria Workforce Development Center. You are welcome in all Centers, but these two are operated by local government specifically for Arlington and Alexandria residents.

CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES

Virginia Career Works – Northern Region has several Employment Programs to more intensively assist you to prepare for employment. These programs may including certification training, career counseling, internships, or other supports.

Career Counseling for Parents: Employment Supports for Lifelong Achievement (ESLA)

Have at least one child under age 18?

ESLA Career Coaches may provide: Employer outreach, career and job coaching, job search improvement, paid internships, resource identification, or training.

Ticket to Work Program:

Do you receive Social Security Disability Benefits (SSI/SSDI)?

Are you interested in going back to work but are concerned about losing your benefits before you are ready?

Our Ticket to Work counselors guide disability beneficiaries through an employment plan using the Social Security Work Incentives, which provide trial work periods when you can work while still receiving your benefits.

Senior Community Service Employment Program:

  • Are you over the age of 55+?
  • Are you unemployed?
  • Are you struggling financially?

The Senior Community Service Employment Program offers individuals over age 55+ paid training and work placements.

WIOA Employment Case Management:

  • Career assessment and advice on career pathways that are recommended
  • Funding for certification training for professional careers
  • Employment plan including Virginia Career Works job search classes
  • Monthly check-ins with a Case Manager

Does this sound like you?

  • You are ready to work now or within the next 2 months
  • You speak English sufficiently to understand training lectures and communicate without an interpreter
  • You are willing to complete an application with identity, work authorization and income information
  • You are willing to complete a career assessment
  • You want to communicate with a case manager at least monthly and follow up the year after you get a job
  • Bonus: You notice job descriptions ask for certifications you do not have, even though you have experience.

WIOA has a separate Youth program for young adults with challenges that make finding employment more difficult. In addition to the above career supports, the Youth program offers free training, internships, SAT and GED prep, tutoring, and career exploration for eligible young adults ages 17-24.
